The Albury Wodonga Data Hub has been released to surface some of the great datasets available across the twin regional cities that span the NSW and VIC borders.
The datasets include information like bike and walking trails, EV charging stations, playgrounds, parks, public toilets, and more.
Today, there are 26 discreet datasets, but with the platform now established, this will be added to over time.
The datasets provided vary in their detail but often have options to download the data in a range of file formats, including CSV, KML, Shapefiles and GeoJSON. Many have lat/long coordinates and are expressed as locations on a map, thanks to GIS platform ESRI.
There is metadata available for each dataset which includes the source provider of the data (often Albury City Council and Wodonga Council). Metadata surfaces important details like the dates for when the data was most recently updated.
Data is licensed under Creative Commons licensing and I really hope we see more local data sources added to the hub.
While the data may be interesting to the casual viewer, for application developers, data sources like these can be a great source of information to build app experiences on top of.
