Shortly after the Flames fell 5-4 in a shootout to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Friday night, TSN and ESPN analyst Kevin Weekes dropped a blockbuster tweet that the 28-year-old defenceman’s agent Dan Milstein had requested a trade.

“Fresh off a goal and a big hit against the (Maple Leafs), I’m told D Zadorov through his agent (Milstein, from Gold Star Hockey) has requested a trade from the (Flames),” Weekes wrote.

The report was subsequently confirmed by multiple insiders.

Zadorov has gotten off to a strong start this season, picking up one goal and four assists in 12 games.

But he is getting only 18:12 of ice-time per-game, which is fifth-most among Flames defencemen.

Zadorov is set to become an unrestricted free-agent at the end of the season, so the Flames would likely have had no choice but to move him before the trade deadline if he’s simply informed them he had no intention of re-signing.

According to TSN insider Pierre LeBrun, though, Zadorov and his team told the Flames they’re hoping for a quick resolution.
